The hotel takes its name to the charismatic and versatile figure of Frederick II of Swabia, whose court was a place of encounter between cultures Greek, Latin, Arabic and Jewish, anticipating the Sicilian School, the splendor that the rest of Italy knew only two centuries after the Renaissance.

Frederick II of Aragon, prominent figure who succeeded to the Swabian, whom is credited the transfer to Montalbano Elicona the summer royal residence from Palermo; it seems that this monarch's arrangement predilection was for the therapeutic properties of Montalbano's water, who still maintain the excellent properties.
